Education UK Exhibition

The British Council is organising its annual Education UK Exhibition in Chennai on February 24 and 25. The exhibition showcases the best of UK education, with 175 academics and representatives from 72 institutions travelling across India as part of the exhibition, said L Dhanasekaran, manager, Education UK (South India).

These exhibitions bring students face-to-face with representatives from schools, colleges and universities who can tell them about their courses, admission requirements, facilities and services. A series of seminars will also take place alongside the exhibition.

Visa figures show that the number of Indians looking to study in the UK is at an all-time high. Approximately, 15,000 students have been issued visas for the academic year 2004-05. Of these, the majority are postgraduate students but there has also been an increase in the number of under-graduate students and those studying vocational courses.

While subjects like business, management studies, engineering, IT, law and medicine remain popular subjects, there are many other fields emerging as favourites. On the rise are life science subjects such as biotechnology, genetics and molecular biology; paramedical courses such as physiotherapy, psychology and occupational therapy; art and design courses such as fashion design, textiles and architecture; service sector courses such as call centre training, hospitality management, tourism and retail management.

With such varied student interests, it is perhaps little wonder that the British Council's flagship Education UK exhibitions are so popular with UK academics. So much so that an incredible number of 175 academics and representatives from 72 institutions will be travelling across India during February 2005.

The exhibitions begin in Delhi and will visit Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai. As always, a series of seminars will take place alongside the exhibition and British Council staff will be on hand to advise on accreditation, scholarships, visas and more.
