'Caution Wiz Kids are inside .....' said a banner that welcomed the visitors of
Horlicks Wiz Kids 2006 by Activity at Kamarajar Auditorium. The hall was packed with
enthusiastic tiny-tots from various schools in Chennai.
The two-day event kick-started with group melodies presented by students drawn from various schools across Chennai. It was a great treat to see the schoolchildren, singing dancing and amusing themselves, amidst their teachers, who were of great support to them.
Two students, Deepika Easwaran from Chettinad Vidyashram school, and S Pragdeesh Chander from Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, outsmarted their peer group and were qualified to take part in the national event in November 2006. They will compete with 48 students from 24 other cities.
These two students were judged based on their performances in three rounds, the written elimination round, the interview round and the final selection round on the main stage comprising of the talent round, the versatility round and judges question round.
Students were evaluated on their overall personality, stage presence, confidence, self-awareness, communication and interpersonal skills, critical thinking, creativity, decision-making and problem solving ability, stress management and emotional quotient.
This event provided an enjoyable and enriching platform for students to encourage participation and team sprit through a variety of competition on diverse subjects such as literature, art and singing.
The competitions were divided into seven categories, such as talent, vocal, art, literary, creative, kids activity and informal activity. These activities were tuned in a way to encourage the students to come out of their cocoon. 'Air Crash' which took place on the second day, received a huge round of applause, prompting the student involved to speak out in front of the whole gathering.
"It’s an encouraging event -- it brings out the talent in the students and it also keeps them relaxed, away from the hectic schedule of studies," said Susan of Sindhi Model Higher Secondary School. "It’s a platform for the students, to be deriving a force which would drive them, to participate in such events," say Pushpa and Amrita of The Grove Higher Secondary School.
Students said they really enjoyed themselves, that they were totally relaxed and had a good time at the show. Some were a little disappointed at not being selected while others showed
sportsmanspirit over the results.
