With a view to motivate dropouts and their parents and make them understand the need to pursue studies, a 60-minute documentary on President
A P J Abdul Kalam has been produced by a Coimbatore-based producer-director.
The release of the documentary film in VCD, scheduled for July 19, was postponed to July 20 in view of the Kumbakonam fire tragedy, in which 90 children perished in a fire in a school, director-producer and chief executive of 'Minveli', P Dhanapal, told reporters in
Chennai.
The documentary, titled 'Kuruthu' (Budding leaf) in which some children have acted, is about a seven-year-old girl, who is a dropout and how a teacher goes to the child's house and explains the need for pursuing schooling by giving the example of the President and narrates his life.
The documentary begins at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, where Kalam was born, and ends with
Kalam taking oath as President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The documentary is interspersed with the remarks of and experiences Kalam by his close friends and relatives.
There are comments by some eminent persons like Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra
Saraswati.
Highlighting Kalam's love for poetry is well-known Tamil film lyricist and poet
Vairamuthu.
