Parle Unnadathirkana
Scholarship to be held this year has invited schools from across the state of
Tamil Nadu to participate in their annual event. Heads of schools have been
asked to recommend a maximum of one student each from the primary and secondary
sections respectively. This is the second consecutive year that this award has
been instituted in this state.
The recommended students will
have to showcase their excellence in education and co-curricular activities in
Chennai. 20 students (10 from each section) will be handpicked by a select panel
of judges. As part of the award, the deserving students will be given financial
assistance of Rs 5,000 per year that would be extended for a period of two
academic years.
The last date for schools to
send in their entries is 20th August 2004.
Launched in 2002, the
scholarship will be awarded after the students go through a stringent selection
process, which includes a personal interview with the judges. The judges include
stalwarts from different fields -- sports, fine arts, social work, theatre and
academics -- who will zero in on the talented 20 all-rounders!
Instituted by Parle Products
Pvt Ltd, these awards fall under the auspices of Parle Centre of Excellence --
an effort aimed at encouraging all-round development among school children. The
award recognizes the development of a well-rounded personality -- whether it is
academics, sports, fine arts painting, performing arts, social work and any
other skill-based activities among students.
Pravin Kulkarni, Marketing
Manager, Parle Products Pvt Ltd says, "The aim of this scholarship is to
further the education of students who have displayed a healthy balance between
academics and extracurricular activities. Parle Unnadathirkana is a platform
created to encourage young talent. We expect that this year too, this
scholarship for all-round excellence will receive an over whelming response and
we are delighted to be part of a programme that helps recognize the genius
residing within a child.”
A similar scholarship that was
announced in West Bengal where it is known as Parle Utkarsha Vritti received
fabulous response again with 537 entries from different schools of West Bengal.
