Jhankar time in M.O.P Vaishnav College
Jhankar, the annual cultural fest of M.O.P Vaishnav College took place on October 10th and 11th. Those two days saw 17 city colleges vying for the Jhankar Trophy. This time round the honours went to the Ethiraj College for Women followed by the Stella Maris College.
The Inter collegiate competitions went on for two whole days. Around 300 students from 17 colleges participated in Jhankar this year. The popular competitions of this year were western dance, a fashion Show, light music, Ad Zap and adapt tune. The theme of this year’s Jhankar was the five seasons of nature.
The judges for the competitions were Vijay Yesudas and Tipu Harini for light Music. Karthik from Evam and Nalini Shriram did the honours during the fashion show. Rehman of Foot Notes Dance School was the judge for the western dance. Priya Karthikeyan, Sudhish Kamat and Andrea were among the judges present. Vanessa from the Stella Maris College took home the crown of Ms. Jhankar. She won a Sterling resort holiday for herself and her family by winning the title.
Rajendran, Chairman, inaugurated this year’s Jhankar on September 26. The very popular Tamil comedian Vivek was the guest of honour on the 27th of September. All the students waited with enthusiasm to catch a glimpse of the comedy king.
The next three days saw intense competitions among all the departments in the college. The judges for the three days included, Yuvan Shankar Raja for light music, Shrikala Bharat for classical dance, Sriman and Kokila Gautham for koothu dance, Lakshmi and Saraswathi for folk dance, Chitra Swaminathan for article-writing and Sanjay Asrani for the fashion show.
Collage, mehendi, painting, pot pourri, western dance, light music, adapt a tune, article writing and koothu dance were the most popular events in the inter-departmental competitions. The theme of this year's fashion show was bridal wear and it saw intense competition among the students all of whom wanted to win the first prize. The overall interdepartmental trophy for Jhankar went to the "Visual Communication Department”, which won this trophy for the third time this year. The second place went to the Department of Corporate Secretaryship. Bindya, a third year student from Visual Communication won the Ms Jhankar crown.
Gangothri and Nestlé had also set up attractive stalls in the college during the festival and their stalls were very popular among the students. GRT was also offering its privilege card to college students during Jhankar. The entire premises of M.O.P. Vaishnav College had been decorated by the students for Jhankar and wore a festive look and as the celebrations came to an end it was a time to rejoice and celebrate the success of Jhankar and also remove the decorations and put it away until next year's Jhankar.
