Simran's wedding and some of the reactions
They had been friends for the past 17 years, romance came later. The duo were seen together, he even accompanying her to outdoor shootings. Simran, one of the top-most actresses of the south, and Deepak Bagga got married on December 2 at
Mumbai.
It was a low-profile ceremony with no media and no industry people invited. A very private affair, it had only the actress' close relatives and friends attending it. The duo, after their trip to Delhi, where Deepak is based, is all set to go for their honeymoon to Switzerland.
The film industry, wishing her the best in her married life, would miss Simran but they hope she would come back. Some of the people contacted had only praise for this actress, and admiration at how she had conducted her professional career. It was her professionalism and dedication that has taken her to the top of the ladder, from a glamour puss to one of the finest actresses around, agree most.
Director Vasanth, who was the first one to sign her for a Tamil film, reminiscises: "I was looking out for a heroine for 'Nerukku Ner' and was not satisfied with the screen tests I took. Then while I was in Mumbai, she walked into my room at the Centaur Hotel.
She was dressed in a simple jeans, T-shirt, very much a lower middle class girl. I was a little hesitant, but I took her screen test. And it was seeing her emote then, that I was bowled. I knew she had the potential, and I signed her that very minute!"
Vasanth, admiring her tenacity and determination, talks about her dedication and talent and says, "From a glamour girl, she's risen to be one of our most sensitive actresses. She's revealed a lot of maturity in her recent performances."
Would the audience welcome her back, with the same enthusiasm, if she does return to films? Says Vasanth, "The audience today is different. They welcome changing trends, and Simran can definitely make it if she decides to return. Only, the type of roles she tackles may be different then, but she can still make it big!"
Director S J Surya, who's producing, directing and playing the hero in his latest film 'New', talks emotionally about Simran, who plays the female lead with him in the film. Incidentally, it was the last film Simran shot for, before she flew to Mumbai to get married, says S J
Surya.
"It was the last day of the shoot and Simran was very emotional. She distributed sweets to all, and gave money to the technicians. She asked for many retakes of the last shot, even after we told her that it was perfect. We all miss her!" As for her returning to acting, S J Surya feels that the actress would make a comeback.
"Maybe 3 - 4 months later. But she'll return, and she'll get back to a top position like Vijayshanthi. She's a versatile artiste and can tackle any roles!"
Incidentally, S J Surya was the only film personality she had invited, apart from a Telugu director, to her wedding. "She deliberately avoided the media, photos and the industry people. It was a very low-key affair. I attended it, it was a very private affair."
Actor Surya, who had acted with Simran in her very first Tamil film 'Nerukku Ner', which was also Surya's debut film, talks highly of the actress.
"She's superb and stands apart in her style, looks, acting and her costumes. Whatever the type of role, she does it well, and whatever the film, her part will be good. She is very professional and dedicated, not much changed since her first film, though she's matured tremendously as an actress."
On whether Simran would be successful if she made a comeback, Surya says, "There is no reason why she shouldn't! There's no aversion or dislike for her. She should be able to make it, if she decides to return."
That's what all her fans wish too, that she would return!
