In the last 50 years, Madras Jaycees had implemented various projects, like training programme for various categories of people including school students, the public and for companies. It has periodically conducted community projects like Mega Health Camp, Mass Marriages, Donation of Ambulances, Artificial Limb Camps, Donation of Bloods and Grant of scholarships, said D Suresh Pungalia, President, 2004.
Right from the beginning of this Golden Jubilee year too, it launched various projects -- a . Health Camp (where more than 600 under privileged patients benefited) Women's Day Celebration (where women achievers in various walks of life were honoured), Blood Donation camps (former Chennai Police Commissioner Natarajan was the Chief Guest), Environment Awareness Rally (where about 3,000 students took part), SHAKTHI - 2004 (National Level training programme for women) and PRAGATI 2004 (business and trade show), Dazzy Crazzy Hungama, First Regional Conference -- to name a few. Further, a long-term project in the form of building a cow shed at Pinjarapole, Ayanavaram, Chennai, to take care of thousands of cows, was built by them. This year, they also started a permanent prdject called 'SWARANA ANNA DAAN YOJANA' wherein foodgrains of different types are collected and donated to the orphanages and the needy and under-privileged people. On six occasions this year, foodgrains so collected were distributed by the Jaycees. Medicines were donated several times to various organisations. On 8th August, the Jaycees decided to celebrate the Golden Jubilee by honouring the founders and architects of the organisation in Chennai at a function called SWARNA UTSAV.
It was proposed to raise funds to put up a permanent secretariat, JAYCEE BHAWAN, where a free dispensary and a training institute for the under-privileged would be run, M Chidambaram, Advisor, said. The Jaycees would also hold an inter-school drawing competition for students of various schools at Agarwal Vidyalaya, situated at Vepery on 11th August 2004, where more than 500 students are expected to take part. A mega free golden Health camp was proposed to be held on 15th August, 2004, when about 1,500 poor patients would get the benefit of Eye Camp, Dental Camp, ECG, Cancer Checkup, Skin and other allments check-up. Free medicines would also be distributed, Chidambaram added.
