As part of the police image project and to ensure
visible policing, Tamil Nadu Director General of Police D Mukherjee
launched a round-the-clock 'Bike Patrol System' in Coimbatore
recently.
Thirty motorcycles are being utilised for this
scheme and 180 head constables would use them in three shifts, round
the clock, city police commissioner C K Gandhirajan said.
Crime-prone areas in each police station had
already been identified and the team would move through even lanes
and bylanes, he said.
Saying that the movement of the teams would be
constantly monitored by the control room and assistant
commissioners, Gandhirajan said the team had been provided with VHF
handset and cell phone would be supplied to them in due course.
Any call to the telephone number 100 would be attended by this team,
including law and order issues, Gandhirajan said.
Anti-chain snatching squad and crime-stoppers teams were already in
service with a strength of 120 head constables, with 30 motorcycles,
to which 10 have been added now. (Agencies)
