Sri Arunodayam, an NGO, is organising a seminar on Juvenile
Justice Care and Protection of Children Act 2006, amended, for
social work students on September 1, 2007, at Meenakshi College for
Women.
The aim of the seminar is to create awareness about the Act among
social work students. Sri Arunodayam has invited eminent speakers
from various walks of life to share their experience and knowledge
about the Act.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., while inauguration will be at 10
a.m. The first session on ‘What is JJ Act and its Purpose’ would be
held under the auspices of Member of Parliament Shanmugasundaram
The second session, ‘Juvenile in conflict with law, Juvenile
Justice Board, procedures, powers, observation home, special home,
special offences, bail and alternative punishments’ would be held
from 11.45 a.m. by Dr Ramadoss (lecturer, Department of Criminology,
University of Madras).
The third session on ‘Juvenile in need of care and protection,
CWC, procedures, power, production before committee, inquiry,
children’s home, inspection, social auditing, shelter home, transfer
and restoration’ would be conducted by Girija Kumarababu, child
rights activist, from 2 p.m.
The fourth and last session on ‘rehabilitation and social
reintegration, process of rehabilitation and social reintegration,
adoption, foster care, sponsorship, after care organisation, linkage
and coordination’, would be from held from 3.15 p.m. by Vidya
Shankar (chairperson, Relief Foundation).
The valedictory would be from 4.15 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.
