The Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation organised the fourth year Sthri Utsav, a workshop for women based on tradition and culture, on Sunday August 19, 2007, at Lady Sivaswami Iyer Girls Higher Secondary School, Mylapore.
Revathy Sankkaran
and Prema Krishnamurthi explained the nuances and significance of poojas (Varalakshmi Viratam, Krishna Jayanti, Ganesh Chaturthi) including arrangements, pooja dhiraviyam, mantras, songs,
naivedhyam, maavilakku, etc.
The Mylapore Trio of S Amarnath, S Surendranath and S Aparna, the organisers, gave a lecture demonstration on beautifying the Amman face for Varalakshmi Viratam, making thazhampoo jadai, cotton vastram, alankaram and many more tips on kolam and decorations.
There was also a lively interactive session on personality development and value education.
In the afternoon, a traditional sumptuous feast (Paddadhi Virundhu), with 21 items, was served.
It included many tasty dishes of yesteryear and was a rare nutritious menu with a balanced diet.
"There were about 30 participants (young and old) who were very enthusiastic in knowing more about our cultural roots. They felt that the workshop was very innovative and useful, a spiritual and cultural eye-opener for them," says a note from the
organisers.
