This solution can handle thousands of branches and is ideal for large Indian public sector banks, according to B Suresh Kamath, chairman of Laser Soft. Suresh said 140 branches of Andhra Bank have gone “live” under this core banking solution. The remaining branches, including the rural branches, would be linked up before the end of March 2004. This would enable the customers of Andhra Bank to conduct their banking transactions from any other branch or ATM of Andhra Bank. At present the bank’s branches are connected through either a “centralised mode” of core banking or through “cluster mode” of core banking. In the centralised mode, the branches would be connected directly to the server at the head office and the information would be distributed from the central server. This has limits the number of branches being connected. In the core banking implementation through “cluster mode”, the branches would be connected through zonal servers to the central server. This system would ensure a fail-safe method to provide uninterrupted service to the customers. Since the existing hardware could be used, the cost could be reduced to one-third of the earlier method and there is no limitation in terms of number of branches. “Cluster mode of core banking is the ideal solution for big Indian banks with a large number of branches,” adds Suresh.
Laser Soft is banking software product company with a client base of 25 Indian and foreign banks. Laser Soft is the only company which provides solutions to all areas of banking. Their software is now operating in more than 3,500 installations and more than Rs 10,000 crore of transactions are routed everyday through their software in India and abroad.
