Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI), a 100 per cent subsidiary of the Honda Motor Company, Japan - the largest manufacturer of two-wheelers in the world - has announced the launch of a new look, sporty 150 cc Honda Unicorn and a 125 cc new Honda Shine in Chennai and the rest of Tamil
Nadu.
In 2006-07, HMSI sold 7.2 lakh units and aggressively plans a growth of 27 per cent in 2007-08 with a sale of nine lakh units. In future, HMSI eyes sales of over a million units to be one of the top two-wheeler companies in India.
"We have emerged as the 4th largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India by growing faster than the industry year after year. We are now targeting rapid expansion of our business in future to be one of the top group two-wheeler companies in India by 2010," said Yadvinder S. Guleria, head - All India Sales,

The new Honda Unicorn exhibits international sporty styling. It flaunts a stylish front cowl, body gelling graphics, robust black plated engine and sporty alloy wheels.
The new Honda Shine shows a new monotone colour and stripe, new grab rail, spring thickness increment and spring colour silver and front and rear black alloy wheels.
Yadvinder said, "The new sporty Unicorn and new Shine are borne out of Honda's belief to constantly innovate to fulfil aspirations and needs of the target customers. Consumer expectations have evolved since we launched Unicorn and Shine. Consumers today seek not only performance but also expect their products to express their individuality. Existing Unicorn and Shine are already a benchmark for exhilarating performance in its category. With their international sporty look, the new Unicorn and new Shine are now further strengthened to meet the expectations of young customers in India."
Unicorn is powered by a Honda 4-stroke, 150 cc engine and incorporating cutting-edge technologies developed by Honda's global R&D team, has a powerful 13.3 bhp engine.
Fitted with the state-of-the-art mono-suspension and a strong and flexible diamond frame, the Unicorn is the first motorcycle in India to have puncture resistant Tuff-up tube, he claimed.
Shine is powered by a Honda 4-stroke, 125 cc engine - powered by 10.3 bhp engine with Optimax technology.
The bodyline of Shine is aerodynamic which contributes to good mileage and improved riding comfort. Shine has also got puncture-resistant Tuff-up tube, he claimed.
The new sporty Honda Unicorn is priced at Rs 58,571 (ex-showroom Chennai) and new Honda Shine price starts from Rs 40,598 (ex-showroom,
Chennai).

In 2006-07, HMSI developed 100 dealers and branches, thus registering a total of 391 operational outlets. In 2007-08, HMSI plans to rapidly expand the network to 693 outlets which is 170 per cent up from 2006-07. This will enable HMSI get closer to customers and achieve the set aggressive targets.
