Rediff.com offers regional videos on iShare Business

Continuing to empower Indians to explore new possibilities on the Internet, Rediff.com India's leading online community portal has announced that it will focus on regional user generated content on its recently launched multimedia social content sharing platform - 'iShare' (http://ishare.rediff.com) by providing a separate video channel only for regional content.

The initiative will help regional users to share and enjoy rich multimedia regional content and help to overcome the mindset that multimedia content on the Internet is only in English, said Manish Agarwal, vice-president, Marketing, Rediff.com, adding that an internal study conducted by Rediff.com showed that there is a need for more services with regional language capabilities to improve Intemet usage. The current Internet usage is limited on account of limited services designed to cater to the needs of the masses.

With the growing awareness about the unlimited possibilities on the Intemet, the regional channel on iShare will provide users with a platform to express themselves in audio visual manner and participate in forming local communities, which are bonded by common interest and passions, Manish said.

He added, "The success of regional content on mobile phone has already changed the way users consume digital media. Technology adoption is no longer a barrier with today's generation and we are confident that with regional video channel on iShare, users will find a new avenue to express themselves and form regional communities and explore new possibilities."

"This initiative will also open up a new platform for our regional partners to tap the large audience using multimedia content in regional languages."

To make the platform easy to use, iShare comes with a very light and easy to use utility tool which users can instal on their PCs and upload multiple files even at low-speed without having to worry about the source of the file. For example, users will be able to upload pictures and videos made on mobile phones, digicam, digital camcorder and music from MP3 player like iPods.

With multimedia entertainment on the Internet expected to be one of the fastest growing segments online, regional content channel on iShare is part of Rediff's strategy to offer every Indian consumers a complete online offering for their videos, audio files and pictures, including the unlimited storage advantage on rediffmail, he said.

Rediff.com has taken into consideration all elements of protecting user's content and privacy rights.
