The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising Excon
2007, India's largest and only focused construction equipment
and construction technology trade fair between November 14-18,
2007, at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC),
Bangalore. Indian Earthmoving & Construction Industry
Association Ltd (IECIAL) is the co-sponsor and Government of
Karnataka is the partner state for Excon 2007.
Addressing a roadshow on Excon 2007 organised by the CII in
Chennai on October 17, 2007, P S Rajamani, co-chairman,
Manufacturing Competitiveness Sub-Committee, CII - Southern
Region, and president, Simpson & Co Ltd, said, "Excon is Asia's
third largest trade fair for equipment industry and amongst the
world's top 10 construction equipment and construction
technology trade fairs."
Besides showcasing world class products and
services in the construction equipment sector, it would also
demonstrate the technological prowess of the construction
equipment industry.
He said Excon 2007 will be a demonstrative
exhibition wherein most exhibitors do active demonstrations of
their equipment to communicate to the visitors on the
versatility / capability of the equipment. In short, he said,
Excon 2007 will be "the one-stop shop for construction equipment
buying".
Rajamani said the Government of India has
accorded top priority for the growth of the infrastructure
sector. To achieve a new vision of growth, the Planning
Commission, Government of India, has estimated that the total
investment in infrastructure has to increase from 4.5% to around
7.5% of the GDP in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2007-2012).
During the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, projected investments of
approx. $ 475 billion has been envisaged in the Indian
infrastructure sector. This has led to huge opportunities for
private sector participation in the infrastructure development.
Excon 2007 International Exhibition: November
14-18, 2007
Spread over 1,45,000 sq mts of display space,
Excon 2007 would have a participation of over 300 exhibitors
including 80 overseas exhibitors. The exhibition will attract
over 50,000 business visitors.
Excon 2007 would feature participation of
international delegates - CEOs from around 16 countries are
expected to take part in the event. There will be international
pavilions from Germany, United Kingdom, South Korea, Italy and
China.
Exhibits on display include dozers, earth
excavators, front-end loaders, graders and vibratory soil
compactors, paving equipment, integrated concrete - bitumen
batching, mixing equipment, mobile and stationary crushing
equipment, material handling equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic
drilling equipment, sewer construction and maintenance systems,
conduit construction systems, trenchers, underground
cable-laying, pipe-laying, drainage and trench-digging
equipment, lubricants and tyres.
Excon 2007 International Conference: November
15-17, 2007
Coinciding with Excon 2007, CII & IECIAL are
jointly organising an international conference on construction
equipment industry with the theme: 'Present Scenario and
Challenges Ahead' between November 15-17, 2007.
The three-day international conference will
be addressed by distinguished speakers from India and abroad
covering key issues in the areas of Infrastructure Financing;
Opportunities & Challenges in Construction Equipment Industry;
Human Resource & Skills; Opportunities in PPPs in Infrastructure
amongst others.
CEOs Panel Discussion: November 14, 2007
Another major highlight of Excon 2007 is the
CEOs Panel Discussion. The theme for the CEOs panel discussion
is 'Construction Equipment Industry as a Facilitator to India's
Infrastructure Growth - Challenges and Opportunities for the
Next Decade'.
As the session aims to enable learning
through exposure to stories from the people directly involved in
the growth of the industry, and role modelling can be a great
source of inspiration for the participating industry leaders.
CEOs Golf Tournament: November 18, 2007
CII will hold a golf tournament for CEOs as
part of Excon 2007 on November 18 at Bangalore Golf Club.
Leading CEOs from the construction equipment industry; senior
government officials, Defence personnel and diplomats would
participate in the tournament.
CII-Mckinsey Report on Indian Construction
Industry
As a part of Excon 2007, CII and IECIAL will
release a report on 'The Construction Industry in India'. The
report will feature key global trends and forces affecting the
competitiveness of the construction equipment industry.
