At the 44th National Roller Skating Championship Meet that concluded at Kolkata on May 18, 2007, Ruhi M. Ali of Tamil Nadu was declared national champion in the 16 and over age group. Other skaters who did the state proud were:
Sunanda Ramesh - Gold medal winner, Rink 1 event
Amritha J - Silver medal, Rink 1, Bronze, Rink 2
Deepak M - Silver medal, Rink 1, Bronze, Rink 2
V Parineetha - Bronze, Rink 1
Hariharan R - Silver medal, Rink 1
Satya - Bronze, road event
All the above were entries from the Anna Nagar Roller Skating Club (ANRSC) whose coach is K P Unnikrishnan. In the artistic event, Sriram also of ANRSC, distinguished himself with a silver and a bronze medal in the classical event.
Tamil Nadu had its share of success in the Inline skating championships too, with K Aarathi receiving a silver in Rink 4 and gold in Rink 5. A. Shrishti of Champion Skaters came up with a strong performance to win a gold and silver in her age group in rinks 4 and 5 respectively.
The skaters of ANSRC are grateful to the Joint Commissioner of Traffic, Sunil Kumar, and the Assistant Commssioner, Anna Nagar Range, for having permitted the use of AJ Block road for practice before the nationals, said Dr. Mushtaqh Ali, member, ANRSC.
