The main draw of the 5th Chennai Open Squash tournament has three Indian
players qualified for the quarter-finals held on June 14, 2007. This
includes Saurav Ghosal, Parth Sharma and Gaurav Nandrajog. Others who
qualified for the quarter-finals are Neil Hitchens from England,
Mohammed El Shorbagy from Egypt, Dick Lau and Wai Hang Wong both from
Hong Kong.
Saurav Ghosal comfortably beat Balamurugan in straight
sets. Parth Sharma, an Under-19 national champion currently ranked 178,
played the match for 36 minutes to win against Yasunori Ishiwata from
Japan. However, the only match that took a long time was between Gaurav
Nandrajog and Max Lee from HongKong which went on for 53 minutes. Gaurav
maintained consistency in the 4th and 5th rounds which helped him win
this five-set game.
