School students aged between 13 and 17 can hit the fast lane when the
Amaron Karting Challenge 2007 begins on July 8 in Chennai and moves over
to four other cities by October 21. This event is being organised by
Amara Raja Batteries Ltd to identify, nurture and promote young racing
talent in the country and will be the first multi-city karting challenge
in India.
After Chennai, the karting challenge moves to Bangalore
(on August 5), Kolhapur (August 26), Mumbai (September 16) and Goa
(October 21) before the grand finals at Goa the same day, Akbar Ebrahim,
Meco Motor Sports, said in Chennai recently.
The winner will earn a scholarship berth in the
Amaron Karting team in 2008 and will take part in the JK Tyre Rotax Max
Challenge and the Indian National Rotax Max Challenge.
Ebrahim said the first 250 entries in each city would
be chosen to participate in the karting challenge. However, winners of
any karting challenge in the last three years would not be allowed to
take parts.
Entries for the Chennai Challenge open on June 26 and
close on July 5 at 5 p.m.
This would also be the first time that the latest
version of the Subaru 4-stroke engines were being used on EVO-AE 1 Karts
in India.
Jay Galla, managing director, Amara Raja Batteries
Ltd, said the company was doing studies on how to go beyond India and
start getting involved in the international platform with the sport
itself. (Agencies)
