The MOP Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai, has
organised VASPO 2007, a National-level Inter-Collegiate Tournament from
July 9-11, 2007.
Colleges from all over the country are competing for
the prestigious Dr Sivanthi Adityan Overall Rolling Trophy in three main
events - Basketball, Volleyball and Table Tennis, said directress of
Physical Education, S Sankari.
Students from 42 colleges will take part in this
annual sports festival. Over 500 players from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and
Karnataka besides Tamil Nadu (including rural colleges from Erode and
Virudhunagar) are participating in the sports event.
VASPO 2007 has invited participants from engineering
colleges as well this year.
The MOP Vaishnav College for Women has a focused
approach towards sports and supports sportswomen. The college has so far
produced 32 international players and 120 national players in 18
disciplines and has so far won 338 tournaments.
It was in 2005 that the college organised a
state-level inter-collegiate tournament. The success spurred the college
to go in for a national event.
