Naresh-Parth score upset win in National Squash Sports

The finals of the men's doubles saw a major upset with Parth Sharma and Naresh Kumar defeating Saurav Ghosal and Harinder Pal in a five-setter thus providing a surprise finish to the squash National Championship carnival taking place since July 17 at the ICL Academy.

It was surely the day of ICL trainees, Parth and Naresh, who could would not let defeat overcome them. Saurav and Harinder played well but lost the match due to some unforced errors and loose shots. Though the first two sets saw Saurav and Harinder triumph, their performance levels dropped with the generally fast-paced Harinder playing some unimpressive shots and was at times not fully focused. Parth, on the contrary, made a strong impact with slow but steady shots and gradually climbing up the score chart.

The winner of the Men's Doubles event took home Rs 30,000, while the runner-up, 3rd and 4th place winners carried Rs 16,500, Rs 9,000, and Rs 6,000.

The inter-state championship saw Tamil Nadu 'A' beat Tamil Nadu 'B' with great ease. Parth, who played against Ravi Dixit, seemed to enjoy every shot, perhaps feeling on cloud nine after his superb performance in the Men's Doubles. Saurav, who took over the next match of the inter-state, played a tactical game and brought Tamil Nadu ‘A’ to the forefront of the championship with no requirement for further matches.

The winners of the inter-state earned Rs 25,000 while the runner-up and third winner will be richer by Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000.
