The 2-day Logistics Summit will be inaugurated by C. Vidyasagar Rao, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Government of India on October 8, 2003. Dr. Ramesh Chandra, Secretary, Empowered Committee on VAT, Ministry of Finance, Government of India will deliver the special address at the inaugural session of the Logistics Summit.
Announcing this at a media briefing, N. Kumar, Chairman, CII National Council on Logistics & past President, CII said that at Logistics 2003, CII will be releasing a white paper on logistics, prepared by Prof. G. Raghuram, IIM - Ahmedabad & Prof. Janat Shah, IIM - Bangalore. A theme paper prepared by Prof. N. Viswanadham, Deputy Executive Director, The Logistics Institute - Asia Pacific, Singapore, will also be released, said Kumar. Kumar said that the white paper on logistics titled "Roadmap for Logistics Excellence: Need to Break the Unholy Equilibrium" provides a roadmap for India to move towards logistics excellence. The paper would give an assessment of the overall performance of logistics in India and provide a framework that seeks to explain the current status and prescribe an actor-wise action agenda as the roadmap towards logistics excellence, said Kumar. The Theme Paper on Logistics 2003 would address the state of the Indian Industry, emerging logistics trends and opportunities, opportunities for innovative logistics services in India and also addresses the development strategy for Indian logistics through a Cluster approach.
