Lakshman said that the YI initiative with its envisioned 10,000 members, over the next three years, representing various walks of life in the age group of 25-40 years has the potential to become a global movement. The objective of the YI is to involve young Indians in shaping India and developing an India positive mindset and cultivate learning amongst the Young Indians.
Listing the YI initiatives, Lakshman elaborated that the YI Bridge initiative would influence, inspire and motivate millions of young students and work towards developing leaders of tomorrow; the YI Connect would involve in the interaction with policy makers, bureaucrats & politicians; the YI Project would take up challenging projects which will fire up the imagination of the young and finally the proposed YI Summit would unleash the India opportunity to the younger generation. Announcing the YI Summit, scheduled to be held on 10 & 11 March 2004 in New Delhi, Narayan Sethuramon, Chairman, YI Summit & Joint Managing Director, W S Industries (I) Ltd said that the Summit would bring together young leaders from various discipline to speak on the current opportunities available in India; motivate young people to undertake activities to promote development of society on a sustainable basis and to focus on geo-political developments and their impact on India.
The National YI movement was launched by CII last year under the Chairmanship of G V Sanjay Reddy, CEO, GVK Bio-Sciences Ltd. N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh; N R Narayana Murthy, Chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor, Infosys Technologies Ltd; K V Kamath, Managing Director & CEO, ICICI Bank Ltd, Tarun Das, Director General, CII and Rajat Gupta Senior Partner, McKinsey Worldwide would guide and shape this movement as YI Advisory Board Members.
