Ashok Soota, ex-chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for South India and chairman for CII's National Committee for Electronics and Information Technology was present at the launch. He made a Push-To-Talk™ call to Amit Bose, president - Telecom, Tata Teleservices. Tata Indicom is the first mobile operator in India to offer Push-To-Talk™. Built on QUALCOMM's BrewChat™ technology, this service enables person-to-person and person-to-group communication between users at the 'push of a button'. This new walkie-talkie feature provides customers with a fast connection to individuals or even groups of people like their colleagues, family or friends. This service has been specially designed for CDMA200 1X networks and will go live, for the first time ever in the world on the Tata Indicom network. QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), is the pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology. The key benefit of Tata Indicom Push-To-Talk™ is that it frees the customer by allowing him to instantly call a group of people at one time from any place, Push-To-Talk™ addresses the critical communication needs of businesses - large and small, sales teams, professionals and government departments like the police and fire brigade without being confined to a location. It enhances productivity and efficiency, saving time and money in the process. Amit Bose, president - Telecom, Tata Teleservices, said, "We are proud to be the first to bring Push-To-Talk™ to India. We believe that Push-To-Talk™ is an important step in India's mobile telephony industry. The customer now has a unique service that provides instant connectivity and also has significant cost benefits. We've partnered with QUALCOMM - the pioneers of CDMA technology - for this solution. It will be available across all our talk plans on a new Push-To-Talk™ enabled Kyocera handset." He further added, "We are happy to introduce Tata Indicom Push-To-Talk™ in Bangalore. Initially, this will be a free try-and-buy offer for corporates. We will shortly thereafter make it available for the mass consumer.”
The BREWChat solution enables quick 'push-to-chat' functionality on 3G CDMA wireless devices and networks. The BREWChat client software is written as an application for QUALCOMM's BREW solution and offers dynamic, over-the-air upgrades of handset software, management of group membership by subscribers and ad hoc creation of chat groups.
