Thereby hangs a stocking at Globus Events

The New Year is generally time for gifts, especially for children. Usually, NGOs and non-profit organisations come forward to help disabled children. But, this time, it is the turn of Globus, the fashion store, to undertake this effort.

Globus, one of the leading garment stores in the city, has put up a huge 15 feet long stocking at the shop entrance. It is to be filled with clothes, toys, books and stationery which will be gifted to the students of Rasa (Ramana Sunritya Aalaya Trust) centre for theatre arts and special needs.

Rasa is an NGO which was founded by Dr Ambika Kameshwar, dancer, choreographer and classical singer.

Located at R K Nagar, it is a special education school that reaches out to developmentally disabled children in Chennai, through dance, music and art.

Binu Jacob, manager (Operations), Globus, T Nagar, says, “When customers are involved in the activity, there is more reach, interaction and awareness.”

Gifts for children, up to the age of 15, are collected. Children associated with Rasa will be the beneficiaries, he adds.

On the occasion of unveiling the stocking, Dr Ambika Kameshwar, founder-director, Rasa, said, “Globus putting up a stocking for the special children of Rasa is truly bringing alive the love and sharing of this wonderful season. It is a beautiful gift for the beautiful children of God.”

The stocking is put up at Globus’ outlets in T Nagar and Adyar. It was unveiled on December 25 and will be on display till January 3, which is the last date for the collection of materials, says Binu.

Earlier, the world’s largest Christmas stocking, measuring 111.2 feet tall, was introduced at Mumbai.

According to Binu Jacob, “Unused clothes, toys, books and stationery are to be donated, as they are being gifted to the children.” The gifts will be sorted and given to the NGO by the first week of January, he adds.
