Exhibition of Anamika

New works of V Anamika are on display at the Alliance Francaise of Madras gallery from June 19 to July 1, 2006, titled 'Tune in 96.6'.

"My work has developed in a number of ways over the past few years. Although one particular concern to search the true nature of the space, and a query to know the ultimate of space, has formed the main drive for its development."

"The inquisitiveness and love for space seems to me to be an important and natural consideration in terms of executing an art work."

"As an extension of my thought over space, I have recently executed some relief structures where I have liberated the forms from constructive rectangle or square format of a painting. These structures are mainly targeted on utilising the light and the outer space of a work of art, as an additional source in bringing out the ultimate play of space."

"Having art as a tool and mirror, which emanate its environment exceptionally. I feel my contribution will be to have a 'blank space' within me to receive and 'fine-tune' the transaction, and give a 'physical body' to it."

Anamika

She completed her Master of Fine Arts from the Government College of Arts & Crafts, Chennai. She has participated in several national as well as international exhibitions. Her solo shows include Whistle Stop Cafe and Airports Authority of India apart from Lalit Kala Akademi.

Anamika's dedication and sincerity have won her the award for excellence by Yalli Art Foundation, Chennai, in 2002. She has also received scholarship awards from the Lalit Kala Akademi. She has participated in group exhibitions, Adogi International Exhibition of Miniprints, Spain, Victoria Technical Institute, All India Crafts & Folk Festival, All India Fine Arts Exhibition, to name a few. Her interest does not stop with just abstract painting but varies from photography to sheet metal work; costume jewellery to terracotta and craft works.

After her exhibition Sum of Infinity at AFM Gallery in April 2005, she has continued to go ahead undeterred, with sincerity and dedication, in search of her vision of paintings and forms. Her works are proof of her rigorous work and are neither repetitive nor decorative.

Last year, at the AFM gallery, she presented a collection of interesting abstract paintings, combinations of colours, textures and forms. She is back with a new series of work, between painting and sculptures. A fascinating piece of work from a promising artist.
