Airtel painting competition for kids

Airtel, India’s leading mobile service provider, has announced a mega painting competition, which will provide an excellent opportunity to 50,000 schoolchildren to express themselves about Tamil Nadu.

Sunday’s competition in Chennai would have over 1,500 students participating in the final round of ‘Enchanting Tamil Nadu’. The biggest ever art event in town at Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidhyashram, No 6, Kilpauk Garden Road, Chennai, would be based on the subject ‘Festivals of Tamil Nadu.’

In its endeavour to promote Tamil Nadu in the minds of young children, Airtel has taken support from the Tourism Ministry by taking the theme 'Enchanting Tamil Nadu', which is the tourism slogan of the state.

The competition, open to children from classes-III to VIII, will invite entries through drawing or painting on any subject concerning Tamil Nadu - people, places or culture. In the preliminary round, 50,000 schoolchildren are expected to participate and submit their entries.

From this list, about 10,000 children will be selected for the final round, which will be an on-the-spot painting contest.

From these finalists, 1,000 children will emerge as the final winners, who will walk away with exciting prizes like cycles, watches, cameras and art material. These prizes will be handed over at another function, which will be held a few days after the actual contest.

Each of the 50,000 children participating in the contest will receive an 'Airtel My Big Book', which will allow them to store interesting information about their likes and favourite things. All the 10,000 finalists will get a picture frame of the painting made by them, which will be a treasured memento for the family.

The event is being conducted in Chennai, Salem and Tirupur as per the schedule given below.

Welcoming this initiative from Airtel, Minister for Tourism, N Suresh Rajan, said the aim was to promote the state as a warm, friendly, historical, religious, architectural and scenic tourist destination and hence the slogan 'Enchanting Tamil Nadu'.

"We are extremely delighted to note that Airtel is using this theme to showcase the talent of over 30,000 school students through a painting competition and thereby build a groundswell of tourist interest in Tamil Nadu. This event will build awareness amongst the children about the cultural diversity of the state. We warmly welcome Airtel's initiative and wish them all the very best in this endeavour. I would also like to communicate my best wishes to all the children participating in this painting competition."
