Paintings by Elzevir
An exhibition, 'People' - a set of paintings by Elzevir - will be on at the Alliance Francaise of Madras from September 11-23, 2006.
People from France and people from India. You, me, they, Elzevir has developed over the years, in Saint Etienne a Mecca of art and design, a pictorial work which could be termed "anthropological", sketching French society in successive strata.
A generous and humorous 'Human Comedy', by turns sensitive and critical, which the artist paints with quick strokes on big wooden boards. Newlyweds, grannies, beach boys, body builders. . .
Elzevir's characters are giants, because caricatures are so. Here they are now in India, accompanying the artist in his encounter with new characters, painted in Delhi and Pondicherry, during his artistic residence. Rickshaw drivers, security guards, students, dancers, businessmen, Mr and Mrs Everybody. The world is multifaceted, but the artist's work is one.
Elzevir's people: humanity, as it is, without distinction.
The exhbition will be on at the AFM gallery. All are welcome.
