You can catch him on most weekends at DakshinaChitra, in his little corner behind Brahmin house, introducing himself and his craft to mesmerised visitors of all ages. Raghavan had his training in scientific glass blowing and has been in the field for over 22 years. He found his true calling in creative glass blowing and since then he has travelled all over India and Europe doing workshops and attending camps.
This year, Raghavan is conducting a special workshop that is being held for the first time ever in Chennai. A glass bead making workshop. Participants will learn to make glass beads and a pendant using soft glass. This technique is safe and suited for beginners.
A word about glass beads at this point to reveal its hoary past. This art form has been around since the time of the epics as reference has been made to glass beads in these texts. Ancient Mesopotamian, Indian and Chinese civilisations had developed and used glass beads for adornment. The beauty of glass has led to its continued popularity down the ages.
Conveyance to and from DakshinaChitra will be provided by the staff van.
The workshop fee of Rs 500 is inclusive of material and transport.
