The 'Mylapore Trio' of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation celebrated the Fifth Margazhi Bala Utsavam – an exclusive five-day children's festival on January 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28, 2007, at R K Swami Auditorium, Mylapore,

There were totally 20 events (competitions and participation) including a special culture quiz for mother and child, mehendi, apart from classical dance, music and other arts. About 920 children from 2 to 23 years of age took part in this mega festival.
The highlight of this utsavam was the Special Brahmam Award function on January 26, 2007. Chief guest Leela Shekar – chairperson, International Dance Alliance, Chennai, conferred the Bushan, Vibushan & Brahmam awards and spoke on the importance of cultural values and dress code among children and parents.

She also wished and blessed the 'Mylapore Trio' in their mission to promote, propagate and revive sublime values among the younger generation. Incidentally, this year, all the awardees hail from
Mylapore.
The Guru Brahmam (for lifetime achievement in academics) title and award was conferred on Dr Nirmala Thyagarajan, M.S. (Tenn. USA), Ph.D, M.Ed., retired joint director, Collegiate Education, Chennai Region, Government of Tamil
Nadu.
A former principal of Queen Mary's College, Chennai, she also presented the Smt R Nagammal – Swarna Kalas rolling trophy (2 feet gold coated temple kalasam) to Skanda Gana Vidyalaya – Mylapore, for participating in large numbers, which was received by its guru Lakshmi
Krishnaswami.

On Saturday, January 27, 2007 – chief guest, Prof T K Srinivasan and Rajeshwari (connoisseurs of fine arts) graced the Visesha Arangam & blessed the participants of the day. They addressed a large gathering and stressed the importance of Indian culture and heritage.
The valedictory was on Sunday, January 28, 2007 – chief guest, G Rangarajan, chief manager – Indian Bank (Mylapore), chaired the function and distributed certificates and medals to all participants, apart from various prizes including - Talent, Multi-Talent and Outstanding prizes. There was overwhelming response from the children, parents, teachers, institutions and public at large.
One of the Mylapore Trio, Aparna, says, "All the participants and their parents and most of the rasikas were present in traditional attire." It was a very tight schedule for the organisers.

Amarnath, part of the Mylapore Trio, thanked the parents who were most forthcoming to contribute their might to award prizes for various competitions in the name of their beloved ones.
Mylapore Trio Surendranath added that the utsavam had no sponsors as such, but he enjoyed doing it with dedication, commitment and self-support, along with like-minded and service-oriented parents, friends and well-wishers, who had joined with the 'Trio' for the noble cause, in rendering physical, moral and monetary support to run the function and thereby ultimately derived self-satisfaction.
