Visual documentary on Indian women Arts and Culture

DakshinaChitra, in collaboration with the Center for Women's Development Studies (CWDS) (New Delhi), is hosting a photography exhibition titled 'Representing Indian Women 1875-1947'. The exhibition presents a collection of rare photographs, depicting Indian women's lives during the period.

This is the second event that DakshinaChitra is organising in promotion of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, India.

The exhibition has been curated by Malavika Karlekar with support from Leela Kasturi and Indrani Mazumdar for the CWDS. This travelling exhibition has been to several cities and comes to Chennai for the first time.

It will be inaugurated by Revathy Menon, actress/director, on February 17 (Saturday) at 10.30 a.m.

There will also be an interactive workshop during the exhibition on archiving the photograph and using it as a source of data in social science - particularly in the area of women and gender. The one-day workshop will be on February 19 (Monday). Those interested are requested to confirm their participation by contacting the event co-ordinator at 98413 99194, 24462435.
