B2B gold jewellery exhibition

Gold Jewellery India International Exhibition 2005 (GJIIE), India's first and only exclusive business-to-business trade fair organised by World Gold Council and Madras Jewellers & Diamond Merchants Association will be held from May 20-22 at Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai.

K Shivram, vice-president, World Gold Council said, "GJIIE 2005 will give opportunities to businesses involved in gold jewellery, equipment, packaging and accessories in India and abroad to interact and transact business with jewellery manufacturers, jewellery machinery and packaging manufacturers, importers, exporters, wholesalers and retailers, as well as others connected with the jewellery industry - all under a roof. It also opens a world of opportunities for gold jewellery artisans, designers and others involved in the gold jewellery business to showcase their latest trends and styles."

"We are expecting more than 150 gold jewellery manufacturers from the gold and diamond industry like Bengal, Maharashtra, Surat, Delhi/Agra/Jaipur, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Singapore, Italy, Turkey and Malaysia. Around 10,000 trade visitors connected with gold and gold jewellery are expected from India and abroad to visit the fair and do business. There will be seminars and design forums on the latest developments in the gold and gold jewellery worldwide. Leading experts from India and abroad will share their experience and expertise."

Uday Kumar Vummidi, chairman, GJIIE 2005 Organizing Committees, said, "GJIIE 2005 will offer a platform for reputed gold jewellery manufacturers in India to come together and present their collection to the jewellery trade at large and expand their business."

He added that gold was the primary investment for many Indians. Over 600 tonnes of gold is consumed in India, making it the largest consumer of gold in the world. South India is the largest and biggest market for gold and gold jewellery in India, accounting for over 45 per cent of the country's demand. 

Chennai is India's largest gold jewellery retail market and home to some of the biggest names in the country's gold jewellery trade. Chennai sets the trend in gold jewellery for almost the entire country and has over 4,000 retail outlets. South India's 60,000 to 70,000 retailers take Chennai as a role model for their business success.
