Ayurvedic cosmetology clinic
With a view to protecting and rejuvenating one's skin and to popularise nature's treatment for skin care, Sowkhya, claimed to be India's first-ever Ayurvedic cosmetology unit for women, was declared open at Adyar in Chennai recently.
Located at Sunnyside, No 49, 1st Main Road, Gandhi Nagar, next to Naidu Hall, Sowkhya offers a wide range of established Ayurvedic healing and rejuvenating therapies for all cosmetic problems. These include Ayurvedic solutions for the skin, face, hair and hand & foot treatment.
George Koshy, managing director of Sowkhya, said, "The stress of daily life keeps increasing. This affects the body adversely and it is immediately reflected on our face. These are very visible in our parched and tight skin. To combat this, one goes for alternative beauty techniques, an increased exposure to which leads to a gradual deterioration of one's skin. My idea was to offer women a place of pampering and healing, where they can retreat from everyday life, tune into their inner rhythms and relax mind and body. Rather than merely working on skin-deep beauty, the Ayurvedic cosmetology unit will emphasise treatments that create wellness from inside out."
In developing their range of treatments, the doctors at Sowkhya have used their experience to identify and then select Ayurvedic ingredients which best delivered the desired effects, he claimed. The medicines used vary depending upon the ailment and body constitution of each person. Treatment at Sowkhya broadly empcompasses head massage, hair treatment, facials, manicure and pedicure and body massage.
As one of the oldest natural medical system dating back over 3,000 years, Ayurveda presents a striking alternative to the Western model of medicine, the limitations of which are becoming increasingly evident, Koshy pointed out.
Instead of focusing on healing disease, Ayurveda assists the patient in finding and maintaining his or her own balanced state of health. Using nutrition, health routines, herbs, detoxification, yoga and meditation, it provides a comprehensive and personalised wellness programme, which is natural and equally addresses body, mind and spirit.
"At Sowkhya we have evolved clinically proven and effective Ayurvedic therapy to manage stress and its complications. Our prog'ramme includes carefully selected and customised Panchakarma therapy, Ayurvedic herbal medicines to enhance the ojus and practice of selected yoga postures and pranayama," added
Koshy.
