MFT drawing competition

The Madras Institute of Fashion Technology (MFT) conducted an inter-school drawing competition for three districts recently, in which Amirtha Saravanan of Velammal Matric Higher Secondary School won the First prize.

MFT, an off-campus centre of Alagappa University (Karaikudi) offers a three-year degree course and one-year diploma course, conducted the drawing competition for class-11 and 12 students of Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts.

About 300 students from 100 schools - government, government-aided and matriculation - participated in the competition.

The panel of judges selected the winners for the first three places. The prize distribution function was conducted on May 28.

MFT director A K Senguttuvan welcomed the gathering. A K Sharma. deputy director, CIPET, and Balasubramaniam, deputy registrar, were the chief guests who gave away the prizes to the winners.

Amirtha Saravanan of Velammal Matriculation School received a cash award of Rs 5,000, Varsha Salome Devakumar of CSI Jessie Moses Matriculation School won the second prize (and cash award Rs 3,000) and Balaji Senthil of SBOA Matriculation School won the third prize (Rs 2,000).

Apart from these three prizes, 200 consolation prizes and participation certificates were handed over.

MFT director Senguttuvan said in India textile industries earned more foreign exchange. The textile industry has registered fast growth with the end of the quota system in the US and European countries. The industry provided employment opportunities both directly and indirectly. Those who had acquired degree and diploma certificates will get more job opportunities.

MFT offers apparel training to the students. To join this course, the students should possess an ability to draw. To bring out the inherent and innovative talents of the students, MFT had conducted the contest, he added. “In view of the good response from the students, we would like to conduct the competition every year,” he said.
