Arti Bagdy's Fashion Festival 2007 is back. At the Hotel Chola Sheraton,
Cathedral Road, Chennai, it will be on on August 10 and August 11, 2007.
Fashion Festival is back with the spirit of
joie de vivre of a traditional festival and colours of autumn
fused together. Conceptualised and presented by Arti Bagdy, the
exhibition will be held between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., bringing
together 25 talented, budding and established designers from all
over the country to display a wealth of innovative designs for
the festive season.
Fashion inspired by traditional
festivities is the theme for the exhibition:
The participating designers are from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata,
Bangalore, Jaipur and Chennai. On display will
be a wide range - from clothes to jewellery, home décor to
lifestyle products. The ensembles feature bright tones such as
turquoise, red and orange, with a reasonable amount of other
colours as well. The designers have concentrated on thread work
with hints of sequins and include resham, ribbon, gold foil,
twisted gota and pita work in their collection.
Madhavi Goenka launches her collection for
the first time in Chennai. Her forte is hand-embroidered dhaga
sarees with antique resham in vibrant colour combinations that
can be handed down over generations. The pret line consists of
tunics for day wear and club wear. She retails from some really
top fashion stores in India, the US and Canada.
Raja from Chhutis launches for the first time a limited edition
of eco-friendly salwar kameezes and saris with impressive
blouses which are as single pieces in each design for this
festive season. Kalakriti, who retails from stores like Folio,
is showcasing her pret collection of block printed salwar
kameezes. Sequined tunics teamed with embroidered bottoms and
coordinated duppattas, skirts in mid and long lengths form part
of the collection of Molly Designs from Mumbai.
Suram Fashions from Delhi, Aaina, Waves and
Anushka's from Kolkata and Devaki's from Bangalore along with
Pranam, who is designing for the likes of Shobha De, will unfold
a festive collection of sarees and designer angarkha style
salwar kameezes.
Shubh - Prabha will flaunt her latest
collection of festive traditional handcrafted benarasi sarees.
The fabrics include crepes, georgettes, silks and cotton weaves.
Sarees are teamed with fancy blouses in contrasting hues, in
fabrics such as crepes and cotton tussar, replete with copper
and bronze embroidery on the body and the sleeves.
Zebaish from Mumbai, Jesia and Poshaak from Delhi, Kiah Fashions
and Maple from Chennai bring the very latest in unstitched
fabrics and ready salwar kameezes. Sheetal from Delhi takes you
through a journey of suits in Pakistani concepts with delicate
lace and crochet work. Saanskrutie from Kutch
brings together ethnic and mirror-studded range of embroidered
dresses. Completing and complementing the
ensemble are accessories like evening clutches, exclusive
handbags and designer precious and silver jewellery put together
by ANZ, Precious Collection and Karishma from Mumbai.
Studio Pottery from Delhi showcases tableware and other items in
ceramics which are hand painted, and Pods from Jaipur unfurls
coordinated bedspreads and cushion covers for your homes.
The designers to watch out for are Madhavi
Goenka - Delhi, Chhuti's - Kolkata, Sampada - Delhi, Neena Rana
(Pranam) - Delhi. Last year's Fashion Festival
was launched by actor Sarath Kumar, and was a huge success
judged by visitors' response and subsequent enquiries for
orders. R Rangaraj
