In
yet another innovative exercise at marketing and in keeping with fashion
trends, Sri Kumaran Stores has launched a silk saree which will have four
pallus from which customers can use any one using a zip.
J P Ravi, partner, Kumaran Stores, unveiling the new product in Chennai
on August 14, 2007, said customers wanted new products and new designs.
Sometimes, they wish they could use a different pallu for a saree
depending upon their mood. That's why the company has come out with a
product where a customer can use any of the four pallus provided to them
along with four matching blouses.
The price? Well, it's quite high at the
moment, admits Ravi - it costs Rs 20,000 - but the good news is
that the cost could come down to around Rs 9,000 in a month from
now. "We have planned to hit the market with about 150 silk
sarees now under the four pallu concept. Further production
would depend on market feedback." The product
is actually aimed at the Deepavali festival market, and
therefore the timing is just right, Ravi says. His wife says
that she tested the product and it is actually light and easy to
wear. Medha, a model who displayed the new
saree, said having a choice of four pallus for a silk saree is
exciting. Now, sarees can be colourful and provide variety as
well, she said, adding that the zip was also of good quality and
therefore women need not worry about the zips.
Ravi said zips were of good quality and yet,
if any customers experienced a problem, the company would
provide a replacement. R Rangaraj
