 Navarathri at Chennai Skandasramam
Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam will be celebrating Sarada Navarathri grandly this year with a special Dasa Maha Vidya Maha Mantra Samputita Mangala Chandi Maha Yagnam from September 23, 2006, to October 2, 2006.
On September 23, Sri Maha Kali Chandi Homam will be performed and Goddess Bhuvaneswari will assume the form of Kunkuma Kali, says a note from ashram manager P Santhanam.
On September 24, Sri Neela Saraswati Homam will be performed and she will be adorned with vegetables as Sakambari.
On September 25, Sri Tripura Sundari Homam will be performed and the Goddess will assume the form of Annapurani.
On September 26, Sri Kamalathmika Homam will be performed and the Goddess will take the form of Mahalaksmi.
On September 27, Sri Tripura Bhairavi Homam will be performed and Goddess Bhuvaneswari will be adorned with silver kavacham.
On September 28, Sri Chinna Masta Homam will be peformed and Goddess Bhuvaneswari will assume the form of Kamakshi.
On September 29, Sri Dhumaati Homam will be performe and the Goddess will be adorned with sarkarai kappu.
On September 30, Sri Bagalamuki Homam will be performed and the Goddess will be adorned with poo pavadai.
On October 1, Sri Rajamathangi Homam will be performed and it being the day of Saraswati Puja, the Goddess will assume the form of Saraswati.
On October 2, Vijayadasami day, Sri Bhuvaneswari Homam will be performed and the Goddess will arise on the swing.
The 10-day homam, being performed for the 8th year, begins with 'go' pooja (cow worship) at 7 a.m., followed by Ganapati Homam, Navagraha Homam and Moola Mantra Homam at 9 a.m.
There will be special abhishekams to Goddess Bhuvaneswari on all these days at 10 a.m. followed by annadanam at 12.30 p.m.
The maha poornahuthi will be at 7.30 p.m. followed by abhishekam to Sri Chakra Maha Meru at 8.15 p.m. There will be prasadam distribution after this.
Since these homams cost quite a bit, the ashram has appealed for donations.
