The
chathurthi was celebrated with the usual fanfare this year also. But
as we took a walk aound the city to check out the idols kept in the
main street corners, we could see the 21st century impact in the
images of Vinayaka also.

"A good artistic work is always appreciated. But the sanctity of the idols should be maintained. Especially when putiing up in a public place. There are so many variations of Lord Ganesha are appearing in the shows in the last few years. Most of them are retaining the sanctified look. But the pepsi vinayakar is giving an ugly look. There is no point in having an idol
like that when you do not feel like prostrating before it. And definitely you do not prostrate to soft drink bottles."
