State awards presented for Tamil films Events

It was the opportunity of a lifetime for cameramen to get the who's who of Tamil film industry together at one place - on one platform. The occasion was the presentation of state cinema awards for the years 2005 and 2006 on October 17, 2007.

Legendary actors and youth icons from the Tamil cinema presented a photo op like no other time.

Superstar Rajnikant and Kamal Haasan were there as awardees who had won the best actor awards.

Rajnikant was given the Best Actor award for 2005 for his role as a psychiatrist in 'Chandramukhi', while Kamal Haasan bagged the award for 2006 for his movie 'Vettaiyadu Vilayadu' where he tracks down two serial killers.

The two were presented with gold medallions and certificates by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

From the youth brigade, actors Suriya and Vijay were honoured for their performance in 'Ghajini' and 'Thiruppachi', respectively.

Jyothika, for her scintillating performance as a person suffering from split personality in ‘Chandramukhi’, bagged the Best Actress award for 2005, while the 2006 award went to Priyamani for her portrayal of a village girl in the smash hit 'Paruthiveeran'.

Jyothika's actor-husband Suriya received the award on her behalf.

Other awardees include
Vivek and Vadivelu (Best Comedian 2005 and 2006 respectively)
Prakashraj (Best Villain 2005)
Shankar (Best Director 2005 for 'Anniyan')
Ajith (MGR Award)
Vikram (Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Award).

Sandhya, Nasser, Pasupathi, music director Harris Jayaraj, choreographer Kala, playback singers Bombay Jayashri, Sriram Parthasarathy, art director Thotta Tharani, lyricists Pa Vijay and Na Muthukumar and veteran singer T M Soundararajan compelete the list of awardees.

It was a day of triple joy for veteran actor Sivakumar as both his sons - Suriya and Karthi (for 'Paruthiveeran') - and daughter-in-law Jyothika won awards.

Though the rivalry between Vijay and Ajit had reached mammoth proportions among the public, they were seated next to each other and were caught laughing together! So much for the rumour mills.
