Satham Podhaathey has shaped well: Vasanth Interviews

'Sattham Podaathey' is the title of director Vasanth's next film, now nearing completion. In this exclusive interview to Chennaionline, Vasanth talks about his forthcoming movie and his experience of working with Prithviraj and Padmapriya besides music director Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Vasanth says the film is in the genre of a family thriller, not too similar but something like 'Aasai', his earlier hit film. The director, who made wonderful films like 'Keladi Kanmani', 'Nee Paadhi Naan Paadhi', 'Aasai', 'Poovellaam Kettupaar', 'Rhythm' and many others, is extremely happy about the way the film has shaped up.

"It has come out really well. The film has been shot largely in Kancheepuram, and a little bit in Kochi and Chennai. One more song has to be shot and that will take place in August first week. The post-production work will be completed shortly thereafter."

He is full of praise for hero Prithviraj. "He has done an outstanding job in the film. This will be considered an important film for him. He has already earned high praise for his performance in 'Mozhi'. After 'Sattham Podaathey', his career graph will see a further upward swing."

Prithviraj will be seen as a complete actor in this film, for there is action and scope to emote as well. "What is important is that though his mother tongue is Malayalam, he has taken great pains to do the entire dubbing himself and he has worked on getting his Tamil right and in a flawless manner. That shows his 100 per cent involvement in the film."

The film talks about situations facing the middle-class. Prithviraj plays the character of Ravichandran, while the heroine Padmapriya has the character of Bhanumathi. "This is not a film where the heroine has just four or five songs and dance sequences but it has a good role throughout the film - the kind of roles which any actress would love to have but don't normally get."

Nitin Sathya plays the third character of Ratnavelu.

The theme of the film is 'Sound of Silence', says Vasanth. "Silence speaks eloquently even though there is so much noise around us." It is a family story yet woven around a thriller.

Of the music, Vasanth is all praise for Yuvan Shankar Raja's contribution. "I had already worked with him in 'Poovellaam Kettupaar' in which too he did a fine job. The songs in 'Sattham Podaathey' are outstanding again and they will be chartbusters for weeks to come."

There are songs by Adnan Sami, Shankar Mahadevan and Shreya Goshal. "The stunner is a song by leading Carnatic vocalist Sudha Ragunathan in a peppy style for a change."

C Shankar and R S Senthil Kumar have produced the film - their first - for Kaivallya Entertainment. The audio has been released by Hit Music. Click here for CDs as well.

Vasanth felt that Tamil audiences were now ready to accept different films which were handled well. "I think this is a good time for Tamil movies with some originality and creativity. If it is a new subject or handled in a different, interesting way, movie-goers are ready to accept them. It looks like people are fed up with the usual masala stuff. This situation is good for the Tamil film industry."
