--------Silambattam Director saravanan.
Saravanan,
who has worked as a cinematographer for many Tamil, Malayalam
and Telugu films has directed Silambattam starring Simbu. When I
met him.....
*This seem to be the season for cinematographers to turn into
Directors....
For a movie to be suuccesful, the Director and Cinematographer
should be in the same wavelength. A good Cinematographer is
three fourth of a Director. Therefore, it need not surprise you
when those who see the angle through the Camera's View Finder
takes the role of saying 'Action', 'Cut' etc. This is not any
new season for that.
*What is the story of Silamabattam?
Children love the Temple priest Visu. He is
so chid friendly. In the first half, you can see the story
moving like a train and the second half will have nail biting
scenes. The story starts in Kumbakonam. It turns into action and
ends in Tirunelveli. Sana Khan, Janu, two Mumbai models have
been introduced as heroines.
* Why did you choose Simbu for this story?
The moment the nucleus of 'Silambattam' came
in my mind, I discussed it first with my friend Stunt master
kanal kannan. He said, the subject was good. He wanted me to
select a good hero and start work. I thought Simbu was the right
hero and told him the story. At first, he thought I was going to
tell him a serious story. As I narrated scene by scene, Simbu
turned very enthused. He asked me to commence shooting
immediately.
*Why weren't you be the Cinematographer
for this movie?
Though I had been a cinematographer for many
a film, this is the first time I was wearing the shoes of a
Director. Since I wanted to concentrate on this, Mathi, the
Cameraman of Veyil was assigned that role in this movie. Mathi
was my assistant. Therefore he knows my wavelength and can
handle the camera wonderfully well.
*About the other characters in the
movie.....
Kishore,
who did the villain's role in Pollathavan and John Vijay of the
'Auto' are doing the Villain roles. Besides, santhanam, Karunas,
Kanja kruppu, M S Baskar and several others are in the cast.
Dhina has handled music and has tuned six songs. Don Max, famous
for his Malayalam movies is the editor. Art Director Prabhakar,
who has worked in Anbe sivam and Virumandi is also associated
with us.
*It is said that it is difficult to work
with Simbu....
At the very beginning, many people told me
that it was not easy to work with him. I did'n listen to these
remarks. Simbu is a very talented artist. He knows everything
about films. Only knowledgeable persons can work with other
knowledgeable people. Otherwise Simbu has a lot of involvement
in movies.
