Arun
Vijay has
finally hit
the bull's
eye after
searching
for success
for more
than 10
years. Malai
Malai seems
to be a
breakthrough
for the
actor, who
had done his
part well in
many films.

Director A
Venkatesh has
managed to
provide a decent
entertainer,
despite its
routine and
predictable
elements. The
director has
aimed at the B
and C centers
and delivered a
movie which
could appeal to
the masses
thanks to his
script and Arun
Vijay's sincere
performance.

Malai Malai
has nothing new
to offer. It has
a typical
ruffian hero,
who impresses
the girl at the
first instance.
It has a typical
elder brother,
who sacrifices
his life for his
younger brother.
It also has a
beautiful
heroine, who has
nothing to do
substantially.
Finally it has a
villain, who can
shoot everyone
at the drop of a
hat and gets
away with the
crime.
Expectedly, the innocent hero, coming to Chennai to take up a job,
bumps on the villain. Though they develop friendship initially, they
lock horn, as the innocent hero rubs the villain on the wrong side.
Finally, as you know well, out hero, the one man army triumphs against
all odds. Meanwhile he shakes his legs for a couple of songs with the
curvaceous girl, who is his sweetheart.
The storyline goes like this: Brothers Vettri Vel (Arun Vijay- a van
driver) and Palani Vel (Prabhu- a farmer) share a strong bond between
them. Vettri meets Anjlai (Vedhika) in Palani and falls for her.
Anjali, an RJ in a leading FM, too loves Vettri. She returns to
Chennai after a brief stay in Palani and Vettri comes to Chennai and
joins as a driver in a courier company. While he is trying to trace out
his over, he bumps on Essakki (Prakash Raj), a dreaded criminal in the
city. Soon they become enemies and the rest is all about how Vettri
withstands the challenge of all powerful Esakki.
While Arun renders a neat performance, Vedika impresses with her
charming and fresh looks. Prabhu and Prakash Raj in predictable roles,
add value to the narrative by their solid performances. Kasthuri is
watchable in a cameo. Comedy track by Santhanam and Arthi makes us laugh
at times. Mani Sharma's music provides a peppy song and a couple of
melodies.
Malai Malai might lack logic but it definitely has a magic to woo the
masses.
