Malayan,
directed by
P K Gopi, is
all about a
worker in a
cracker
factory
taking
revenge
against the
evil forces.
The film has
a different
backdrop
(crackers
industry)
and a story
with
substance.

Malayan
(Karan) is a
cracker factory
worker, very
loyal to his
boss (Sarath
Babu). His
simple life gets
shaken when his
lover (Shammu)
along with many
of his peers is
killed in a
‘fire accident’.
Malayan swings
in to action
when he finds
that it as a
planned crime.

Actor Karan
Interview
He finds that
it was none
other than his
respected boss,
who instigated
the fire
accident. The
rest of the
story deals with
how Malayan
approaches the
issue.
Debutant
director Gopi
has chosen a new
background and
has come out
with a story
with some
substance. The
protagonist not
being able to
confront the
culprit because
of his past does
make an
interesting
story. But Gopi
has failed to
tell the story
with novelty or
gripping
elements.
Rather, he
restores to the
routine path and
hence makes the
movie less
appealing.
Worse, the
movie has an old
look in its
treatment and
the way it
portrays the
hero and the
sentiments.
There is no
denying the fact
that Karan has
given his whole
hearted efforts.
Shammu too has
done her part
well while
Udayathara, the
second heroine,
is passable.
‘Ganja’ Karuppu
and Mayilsamy do
make us laugh in
some scenes.
Music
director Dhina
has once again
comes out with
jarring music.
Malayan has a
different
backdrop and a
story to tell us
but it fails in
translating them
into an
engaging.
