‘Maasilamani’,
which has
the lead
pair of
successful
movie ‘Kadhalil
Vizhundhen’,
is an
unpretentious
attempt for
a commercial
venture sans
logic or
finesse.
Nevertheless,
it has come
out as an
entertainer
with its
comical
elements,
the
chemistry
between the
lead pair
and the
twists in
the tale.

Director
Manohar, who had
written
dialogues for
many films, has
made his
directorial
debut in the
movie.
Maasilamani,
hailing from
Rani Anna Nagar,
is a daring and
enthusiastic
youth who
involves himself
in various
public
activities. He
falls for a
middle class
girl Divya (
Sunaina). But
their first
meeting shows
him in poor
light in her
eyes and hence
she hates him.
Maasi goes on to
impress her
family without
her knowledge.
While he is
almost
successful in
getting into the
good books of
the family, he
is again caught
red handed by
Divya, who says
she would never
accept a rowdy
as her life
partner.
Maasi
suddenly plays a
trick saying
that he is just
Mani and not the
rowdy maasi, who
looks alike him.
He cleverly (?)
creates some
situation to
make her believe
that he is Mani
and not Masi.
Enters police
inspector Pawan,
cousin of Divya.
He tries to
expose Maasi and
marry Divya. He
plays some funny
and cruel trick
to achieve his
goal but
Maasilamani
comes up triumph
by his presence
of mind and
support of the
people of his
locality. What
happens to the
proceedings
forms the
climax.

Maasilamani
Manohar has
made the
narrative
interesting by
creating many
twists and turns
through out the
script. Though
most of the
twists looks
unconvincing,
there is no
denying the fact
that they make
the fare moving
forward without
much boring. The
hunting game
between Pawan
and Maasi is
interesting. The
director has
also mixed the
right dosage of
sentiment. Even
the climax is
filled with
sentiments.
Apart from
the chemistry
between Nakulan
and Sunaina and
the on screen
dynamism of
Nakulan, the
comedy element
is a major plus
point of the
movie. The team
of Santhanam,
Srinath, MS
Bhaskar, and
Karunas make us
laugh. Bhaskar
stands out by
enacting the
roles of various
actors from
Rajnikanth to
Simbu.
Though
Nakul’s acting
skills haven’t
been improved,
his dancing and
body language
have improved.
Sunaina, who
looked hot in
her first movie,
has been less
glamourous and
more impressive
in this movie.
She has handled
a few scenes
well, especially
the climax
scene.
Imman has
come out with
some peppy
songs. The fast
beat ‘Odi Odi’
song stands out.
Thiru’s
cinematography
is competent.
