Debutant
director Srinath and
script
writer Anees
Jeeva have
tried to
provide us
an
entertainer
laced with
action and
glamour. ‘Muthirai’
is about the
story of a
crime
mystery
entwined
with a
couple of
love
stories.

Azhagu
(Daniel Balaji)
is a high tech
thief based in
Chennai while
Sathya (Nithin
Sathya) is a raw
thief from rural
background. Both
join hands and
lead happy lives
until they got
trapped in a
larger
conspiracy.

A man bumped
off by cops
leaves a laptop
with Azhagu and
Sathya and hence
the cops hunt
them. The two
along with their
girlfriends run
away to escape
from the police.
Later, they find
that the laptop
has details of
the murder of a
political leader
(Saravanan) and
decide to play
with the
evidence.
Meanwhile,
you get to see
the love affairs
of the heroes.
While Kavya (Lakshmi
Rai) has a
strained
relationship
with her lover
Azhagu, Arthi (Manjari
Fadnnis) falls
for Sathya
believing that
he is a CBI
officer. Sathya
and Arthi makes
Kavya and Azhagu
reunite but
Arthi feels
cheated after
knowing the
truth about
Sathya.
How the
lovers come
together and how
they escape the
wrath of the
police and
politicians form
the rest of the
story.
Srinath and
Anees have tried
hard to present
a racy thriller
and they have
succeed up to
some extent. The
scenes move fast
and the multi
layered crisis
gets many twists
and turns.
However, they
have failed to
present the
twists and the
development
credibly and
that makes the
film less
convincing and
less
interesting.
The escape
from the police
and the way the
laptop is
handled are
presented
unconvincingly.
How can an
educated girl
believe a person
like Sathya as a
CBI officer and
falls for him?
The marriage
drama between
Azhagu and Kavya
looks silly. Why
don’t anyone
involved in the
laptop mystery
take a copy of
the vital
information
stored in the
system?
Performance
wise, hero
Danial Balaji
hasn’t given up
his villainy way
of starring. His
body language
and expressions
are no different
from his earlier
films. Nithin
Sathya is
getting
predictable and
clichéd. Lakshmi
Rai sizzles with
her glamour
while Manjari
looks out of
place in a half-
baked role.
Ponvannan,
Kishore and
Haneefa get
clichéd roles
and hence they
don’t get any
scope to
perform. Rakhi
Sawant’s item
number doesn’t
live up to the
expectation.
Yuvan Shankar
Raja hasn’t
tried anything
new but he has
managed to give
a few impressive
tunes. Saleem's
cinematography
is quite
impressive.
Muthirai
fails to leave a
firm impression
on the audience,
as it lacks
logic and
reasoning.
