Imsai Arasan will be big hit - Shankar
Director Shankar has said his production 'Imsai Arasan 23 aam Pulikesi' with comedian Vadivelu in a full-length hero's role will be a big hit.
Shooting has been completed for this historical film which centres on comedy and will have a strong appeal for a family audience as it is a wholesome, clean entertainer, said
Shankar.
The film has been directed by a young journalist,
Sinbuthevan.
"Vadivelu when Simbuthevan first approached him saying he had a good story for a film, he had tried to put him off. I asked him to name the producer of the film but Simbu refused. He asked me to listen to the story first. I sent him away without listening to the story. Finally, after three or four attempts, he forced me to listen to his story first. He explained about three or four scenes. I was hooked onto the story. It was totally different from what I have done so far. I then asked him who the producer was, and he told me it's director Shankar. I was taken aback and told him he should have told me in the first place. He should never have told me the story. He should have merely said Shankar is the producer and I would have said 'yes', without asking for the story."
Initially, Vadivelu said he was reluctant to accept the role as it was regarded as a hero's role. However, he accepted it only because it was a full-length comedy and it was a historical. Very rarely we get a chance to act in a historical movie like this.
Shankar said the sets by art director P Krishnamurthy were impressive, as also the lyrics (Pulamai Pithan) and music (Sabesh-Murali). He wanted to make different films under his banner S Pictures as he did not want to repeat the themes.
When he produced 'Kaadhal', it was an unusual love story told differently. The film "disturbed" him a lot for three days, he said, adding that he was disturbed for three days after seeing the rushes of 'Imsai Arasan' as well. "Not because it was my film but because it was a different experience doing a period film. It was an unusual but a rich experience. I like doing varied films as a producer, and I like to give opportunities to young directors who come to me with fresh and different ideas."
Pulamai Pithan, speaking in a sarcastic vein, said it was rare to "see Tamil films these days, and listen to Tamil songs". He said it was a great opportunity to work in a period film, write some meaningful songs and be associated with a good Tamil film.
