T Ajaykumar, who produced several hit films like 'Dil', 'Dhool', 'Youth', has launched his next film, 'Malaikottai', with Vishal and Priyamani in the lead. It's written and directed by B Bhoopathy Pandian who earlier directed 'Devathaiyai Kandein' and 'Thiruvilayaadal'. As the film title suggests, it is based on Tiruchirapalli and surrounding areas.

The film also has Ashish Vidyarthi and Devaraj of Kannada movies (in the role of a villain).

Shooting for the film commenced on May 12, 2007, at the Kumbakonam Mahamaham tank with picturisation of a song on Vishal.

This was followed by shooting near the Srirangam temple, Tiruchirapalli central bus stand, Kollidam bridge, Thiruvaiyaru court and near the Cauvery bridge in Tiruchirapalli.

Priyamani, who won several hearts with the role of a village girl in 'Paruthiveeran', has a glamorous role in this film. The film also has Oorvasi and Nirosha.

Manisarma has scored the music for 'Malaikottai'. Lyrics are by Na Muthukumar and Yugabharathi.

Bhoopathy Pandian takes care of the story, screenplay, dialogue and direction of the film.
