Sridhar takes the credit for introducing a host of talented artistes in J. Jayalalithaa, 'Vennira Adai' Nirmala, comedian 'Vennira Adai' Murthy, Srikanth and others. Sridhar directed the legendary MGR in 'Urimaikkural', again not writing for the actor but making the actor act out the role. He made 'Sivandha Man' and 'Ooti Varai Uravu' with Sivaji and ensured that these films didn't sound melodramatic, unlike many of Sivaji's films of the early and mid-seventies.
He worked with Rajnikanth in a couple of films in 'Ilamai Oonjaladugiradhu' and 'Thudikkum Karangal'. He directed Mohan in 'Thendralae Ennai Thodu', a great musical hit, courtesy Ilaiyaraja's ever-lasting numbers. Sridhar directed Karthick in 'Ninaivellam Nithya', another great musical film with immortal songs by Ilaiyaraja.
Sridhar had his own production house 'Chitralaya' that was launched in 1961 and went on to direct many films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi languages.
For his unerring, outstanding and memorable contribution to Tamil films, he can be compared with the likes of Shyam Benegal, Basu Bhattacharya, Mrinal Sen and even many of Hollywood's great filmmakers.
Let's pray for the great man's soul to rest in peace!
