Simran in Chandramukhi

She lost her chance to act in two Mani Ratnam directed films, 'Dil Se' and 'Ayidha Ezhuthu' due to date clashes. But Simran can console herself that she got to play the role in the ace director's 'Kannathil Muthamittal'. Where the superstar is concerned too, she again had some narrow misses, being considered for Padyappa and then for his Baba but losing out to Ramya Krishnan and Manisha Koirala respectively. But now Simran's wish to do a film with Rajinikant has materialised with her acting with him in Shivaji Productions 'Chandramukhi'. Simran has Prabhu as her pair in the film, no doubt, but shares a lot of scenes with the superstar.

Poor Meera Jasmine

"They have all along been cheating me ... When I asked them for an account of how my earnings were invested, they revealed their true colours," says an emotional Meera Jasmine, accusing her family of usurping her earnings. The actrees broke down at a function in Kerala where she was being felicitated for winning the national award. "My joy at winning the award was short-lived, and the pain I underwent, when for the sake of money my own family treated me as their enemy, was undescribable" added Jasmine. The actress has filed a case against her family and shifted to a rented house. She would be in Chennai soon for the shooting of Cheran's `Touring Talkies'.

Two films renamed

Two titles, `Rascal', the Jayam Ravi-Starrer, and director-hero Cheran's `Touring Talkies' have been registered. But cowing down to pressure from the PMK and the Tamil protection movement groups, the makers have decided to go in for a change of title. When Cheran at their meeting asked what the movement would do if someone carried an English title, PMK chief Ramdoss assured him that they wouldn't allow it! Incidentally, words like `Rascal' and 'Touring Talkies' have become very much a part of the Tamil lingo - used more by the common man and the rural folk. Why can't the film industry have its own members exercising control over industry matters than outsiders telling them what they should or shouldn't do!
