‘Silandhi’, the Sharat Kumar-Jyotika-starrer, directed by Gautham Menon, has undergone a name change. It’s now called ‘Pachaikili
Muthucharam’, which is the opening line of an MGR song. “It’s an offbeat theme, and when Gautham narrated the story to me, I had promptly agreed,” says
Sharath. The story centeres on a man who commits an indiscretion in his life, and it’s how the past catches up with him in the most unexpected
way. The film also introduces to the Tamil screen popular Mumbai model and actor Milind Soman in a crucial role. Apart from the film being the first
teaming up of Sharath-Gautham duo, it is one of the two films (the other being ‘Mozhi’) of Jyotika’s to be released after her wedding.
Suchin tries his luck again
Suchindra Bali, son of former actress and danseuse Vyjayanthimala, had earlier acted in a Tamil film ‘Kannodu Kanbathellam’, where he had shared
frames with Arjun. But the film didn’t do much for his career, and the debutant had disappeared from the scene. Now Suchindra returns to the Tamil
screen with his second film ‘Ninaithale’ (earlier titled ‘Sweet’) and paired with him is Nargis from Mumbai. The film is directed by Vishwas Sunder, being
the producer’s directorial debut. Says the hero who has since shortened his name to Suchin, “It’s a sweet kind of a film, a slick and clean family
entertainer centered on a foreign returned guy.” Hopefully, Suchin should have a more fruitful innings this time round.
Raju Sundaram sticks to choreography
It would have been his debut directorial venture and he would have got the chance to match strides with his more famous brother Prabhu Deva. But
dance choreographer Raju Sundaram lost his chance to turn director. Having been signed for the Dhanush-Meera Jasmine-starrer ‘Parattu Engira
Azhagu Sundaram’, Sundaram is now no more wielding the megaphone for the film. And it’s now Suresh Krishna who has stepped in. Reportedly
Sundaram didn’t want to let go the chance of choreographing dances for films that came his way for he was getting a fat fee through that. Producer
KR obviously felt that Sundaram should be concentrating on his direction alone and leave the choreography for later.
Meena goes west
Meena after a brief tryst as an anchor and also playing the lead in a Tamil serial, takes time off to do films in Malayalam and Kannada. The Tamil film
industry may have abandoned her but the other languages offer her some meaty roles. In the recently released Mammootty-starrer ‘Karutha
Pakshigal’, the actress had a role which earned her some sympathy. And now Meena is doing a film with Malayalam film’s action-hero, Suresh
Gopi. The film is titled ‘Black Cats’ and is directed by Vinayan. There's not much that an actress gets to do in an action film. But Vinayan is known to
project his heroines suitably and give them roles of substance.
