The
Alliance Francaise of Madras in collaboration with the
International Cine Appreciation Forum (ICAF) presents an Iranian
Film Festival in Chennai from June 25–28, 2007, 6.30 p.m., at
the AFM Auditorium in Chennai.
Iranian movies often focus on ordinary people
brought about by social, cultural or natural forces. These are
powerful subjects, and Iranian film-makers manage to address
them not with easy sloganeering or sentimentality but with
insight and a sure sense of storytelling basics and dramatic
purpose.
Dariush Mehrjui, one of the fathers of the
Iranian movie modernity, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Madji Majidi, and
other directors have provoked a movie shock by creating a modern
cinema, neither demonstrative nor moralising, built on
minimalist scenarios. We find in the iranian cinema a poetic
lead, a proper aspect of the iranaian culture, and which request
the viewer’s imagination.
