The audio-launch of director Bala's long-awaited film 'Naan Kadavul' was
held in Sathyam Cinemas on New Year's day. Vikram and Suriya, both of whom
got their major breaks in their careers from the director were present to
wish their mentor. Vikram released the audio and Suriya received them.
Speaking at
the event,
Suriya ridiculed
those who have
been criticizing
the director for
the delay in
releasing the
film. "Many say
that the film
didn't release
on Deepavali or
Pongal...the
film is neither
a set of
crackers nor a
bunch of
sugarcane to be
released on
Deepavali or
Pongal".
Suriya went
on to say that
he couldn't
believe that the
Aarya he saw on
the trailer
screened at the
stage was the
same one who
visited him at
his house the
previous night.

Vikram said
that as he knew
Bala's range and
skills, it was
no wonder that
the trailer was
mind-boggling.
Vikram added
that Suriya's
passion to
explore new
roles in each of
his films is due
to his
association with
Bala. He was
humble enough to
acknowledge that
it was Bala who
gave him his
identity. "If
not for Sethu, I
don't know where
I would have
been".
Mani Rathnam
said that he
came to the
function as a
fan of Bala. "I
would like to
say that he is
one director who
can join the
list of doyens
like K.
Balachander,
Bharathiraja and
Balu Mahendra",
said the ace
director.
Bala,
strangely,
wasn't seated on
the dais but was
seated among the
audience. Vikram
and Suriya had
to make quite an
effort to bring
him up on stage.
Naan Kadavul,
shot exclusively
in Varanasi and
surrounding
areas, is sure
to be a turning
point in the
career of actor
Arya, which was
evident from the
teaser released
at the function.
